The number of cell phone subscribers world wide reached 4.6 billion at the end of 2009 and estimates show a growth rate of one billion cell phone subscribers per year. (Wong) Secretary General Dr. Hamadoun Toure of The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) is â€Å"confident we will continue to see a rapid uptake in mobile cellular services in 2010, with many more people†¦show more content†¦With this type of technology at your disposal you can take your work and personal life with you everywhere you go at all times. For those individuals who have a full day of tasks ahead of them it is safe to say they do not leave their smartphones at home. The smartphone represents a convergent new media technology that is both a two-way communication medium and a novel one-to-many information source. (Wei) The speed at which we communicate and share information through the use of smartphones is astounding. Mobile networks have gone through several upgrades, from analog to digital signals.The data transfer rate has increased from 9.6 kilobits per second to 171 kilobits per second.(Wong) But what does all of this really mean? It basically means that people are now able to connect to one another and share information at a much faster rate than ever before. This is great news for those who travel frequently and demand access to instant information at their finger tips at all times.
